Learn About Our Chem Film Coating Per MIL-DTL-5541

Chemical film coating, also often referred to as Chem Film, Chromate Conversion, Iridite, and Alodine, are all essentially the same process. This includes the application of a chromate conversion coating on aluminum. Chem film coating produces a finish which:

  • Protects from Corrosion
  • Assures Good Paint Adhesion
  • Conducts Electricity

Chem film provides less corrosion resistance than other finishes such as anodizing, and does not resist abrasion.

The United States military spec for chemical films and chemical film materials for aluminum alloys is Mil-C-5541E.
